Can you confirm that 'lspci -nn' shows this device:

00:14.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 8 Series/C220 Series Chipset Family USB xHCI [8086:8c31] (rev 04) (prog-if 30 [XHCI])

(this is referred to as PCI_DEVICE_ID_INTEL_LYNXPOINT_XHCI in the code).

But that would cause a regression for other systems that worked fine
with Debian 7.0.

If you have upgraded to Debian 8 "jessie", is this also broken in the
new kernel?  If you have not, can you test the Linux 3.16 kernel package
from wheezy-backports?
