Please address this by sending a patch to the upstream developers.
There is currently no specific maintainer for isofs, but Al Viro
<viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk> and Jan Kara <jack@suse.cz> have been taking
care of it recently.  You should cc linux-kernel@vger.kernel.org.

The current behaviour is actually architecture-dependent as char is
unsigned on some architectures (e.g. powerpc).
