This same reader fails to be recognised on this amd64 system. lsusb
seems to hang for an extended period, but eventually returns with no
entry for the reader. There seem to be no errors reported in dmesg or
/var/log/messages. journalctl reports nothing relevant as far as I can
tell.
I imagine that turning on a debug parameter to an appropriate module
might reveal something, but I don't know which to try.
I should say that I have tried both the usb2 and usb3 ports with the
same results, so presumably the bug is further away from the hardware
than the port drivers.
I collected an strace for lsusb and I can supply that if it would be
useful.
This problem has been happening on this amd64 system for at least a
couple of months, so it is not related to very recent changes. I am
fairly sure that it used to work on this amd64 at one time, probably
around 4 months ago.
Suggestions on how to diagnose this problem would be welcome.
