Bug#774579: linux-image-3.16.0-4-amd64: Kernel fails to boot - cannot find root
Package: src:linux
Version: 3.16.7-ckt2-1
Severity: normal
Dear Maintainer,
Hi,
At some point between the 3.13 and the 3.16 kernels, the ata-piix driver appears to have broken for my hardware (I don't
have the intermediate versions to check precisely which version it broke at).
The console output from boot is:
<consoleoutput>
Booting the kernel.
[ 0.984116] agpgart-intel 0000:00:00.0: can't determine aperture size

Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems:
</consoleoutput>
After this I get some fairly standard text complaining about not finding the root device and left with a BusyBox prompt.
The system boots fine with a 3.13 kernel (which is what I'm running now in order to send this report)
I'm happy to give further information on request (please let me know where I can find the info when asking for it though)
or try out patched kernels (preferably supplied as '.deb' packages please :-) ).
Thank you for your time!
Dave
