Package: apt Version: 0.9.12.1 Severity: normal The kernel postinst script creates an autoremove override conf file to protect recent kernels. But kernels that were automatically installed and not protected by those rules are still not autoremoved. This appears to be caused by linux-firmware-* packages suggesting linux-image:amd64, and that metapackage being resolved to *all* the kernels I have installed, instead of just the latest one, and thus no kernel is ever autoremoved. $ apt-show-versions -r -p linux-image | grep -v 'not installed' linux-image-3.10-2-amd64:amd64 3.10.7-1 installed: No available version in archive linux-image-3.10-3-amd64:amd64 3.10.11-1 installed: No available version in archive linux-image-3.11-2-amd64:amd64/testing 3.11.10-1 uptodate linux-image-amd64:amd64/testing 3.11+54 uptodate $ sudo apt-get -oDebug::pkgAutoRemove=Yes autoremove | fgrep linux-image-3.10-2 Auto-Installed : linux-image-3.10-2-amd64:amd64 AutoDep: linux-image-3.10-2-amd64:amd64 Following dep: firmware-linux-free:amd64 3.2 Suggests linux-image:amd64 , provided by linux-image-3.10-2-amd64:amd64 3.10.7-1 Marking: linux-image-3.10-2-amd64:amd64 3.10.7-1, Curr=3.10.7-1, Inst=3.10.7-1 ...
