Bug#756635: Some further tests with kernel versions

I've been trying to find a kernel which does not show the problem, so far I have not been successful. I installed linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64_2.6.32-48squeeze8_amd64.deb + accompanying firmware-(non)free, this did *not* fix the issue. I have another machine, also with a BCM5721 NIC (different revision though) which *does* work fine when using bridging. So I'm not sure how to proceed. I also tested vanilla kernels 3.15, 3.0 and 2.6.32 from git, all to no avail.

I think it's very unlikely that this is a hardware defect: I have two identical machines showing the same problem.

Note that this bug also affects the network connectivity of the host itself: if the br0 interface hardware address differs from the tg3 network card hardware address, networking does not work at all. The tg3 card simply does not seem to pick up any traffic for the hardware address of the br0 interface!

Just for fun I tested changing the MAC address of the tg3-card in non-bridged mode, and that works fine.

Please advise on any further steps I can take to help in finding the root cause of this problem.

Regards,

Michel.
