Bug#730489: it seems increasing the boot_delay parameter for some reason does not even get me the panic screenie.

Hi all,
I tried increasing the boot_delay parameter first at 3000 and going
beyond. What is happening that I don't get to the kernel panic screen
and get shown a blank screen. Have no idea why it's doing that.

This is some more info. I was able to garner from subsequent tries
with boots. I am not sharing the numbering as they are all different
but just attempting to get what happens so with people's help can get
a fuller picture or someway to do things better :-

One of the interesting comments seemed to be this :-

MTRR : Your CPU's had inconsistent MTRR settings
MTRR : probably your BIOS does not setup all CPU's
MTRR : Corrected Configuration

( I did observe the first statement in all the boots, but not sure
about the 2nd and 3rd statement. I did observe it on the last boot at
least and hence was able to record it.)

I did search the web and found this :-

https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/x86/mtrr.txt

Doing it on another boot in rescue mode gives me this :-

$ cat /proc/mtrr
reg00: base=0x000000000 ( 0MB), size= 2048MB, count=1: write-back
reg01: base=0x07f700000 ( 2039MB), size= 1MB, count=1: uncachable
reg02: base=0x07f800000 ( 2040MB), size= 8MB, count=1: uncachable

I have no idea whether the above observation is significant or not.

Further down the line I saw this :-

ACPI_OSC support notification failed, disabling PCIe ASPM

This probably is nothing as don't think I have PCIE bus.

then little further down I get 9 systems wakeups disabled

Then little after that I get :-

ACPI Exception = AE_Not_Found, while evaluating sleep state [\ _S1_]
(20130517/hwxface-571)

ACPI Exception = AE_Not_Found, while evaluating sleep state [\ _S2_]
(20130517/hwxface-571)

There are 2 sleep states and both have that exception. It had something like

ACPI : PCI Interrupt Link [LNKA] (IRQs 3 4 5 7 *10 11 12 14 15)
ACPI : PCI Interrupt Link [LNKB] (IRQs 3 4 5 7 10 11 12 14 15) *0, disabled
ACPI : PCI Interrupt Link [LNKC] (IRQs 3 4 5 7 10 *11 12 14 15)
ACPI : PCI Interrupt Link [LNKD] (IRQs *3 4 5 7 10 11 12 14 15)
ACPI : PCI Interrupt Link [LNKE] (IRQs 3 4 5 7 10 11 12 14 15) *0, disabled
ACPI : PCI Interrupt Link [LNKF] (IRQs 3 4 5 7 10 11 12 14 15) *0, disabled
ACPI : PCI Interrupt Link [LNKG] (IRQs 3 4 5 7 10 11 12 14 15) *0, disabled
ACPI : PCI Interrupt Link [LNKH] (IRQs 3 4 5 7 10 11 12 14 15)

some number was given LNKH but cannot remember.

If I understand write, it's just the kernel telling which IRQ is given
to which device (like mouse, keyboard etc.)

A little further down, I get this :-

vgaarb: device added PCI:0000:00:02.00 decodes = 10+ meme, Owns=
10+mem, locks=none

then little further down :-

ACPI : bus type PNP registered

another little further down :-

PNP : PNP ACPI ; Found 15 devices registered.

A few more lines and then no output anymore, staring a giant screen.
PNP : PNP ACPI

Non-plussed as to what to do next.
