I was surprised this new "compat-driver" included brcmsmac drivers and 
wanted to give it a try as compiling a complete new kernel is a very 
consuming task.

No, sir, I only can thank you for all your efforts about this. I was 
also a bit tired because I get no success (last kernel I compiled from 
upstream sources was 3.8.something and it failed the same way).

I will try, Jonathan, and keep bug #664767 updated accordingly.
