[...] This change was already made for almost all hard disk controllers between lenny (Debian 5.0, Linux 2.6.26) to squeeze (Debian 6.0, Linux 2.6.32). During an upgrade you would have been prompted to make the configuration change, and that would have given you a configuration that works for all kernel versions.
