Bug#693942: linux-image-3.2.0-4-amd64: regression / high load confirmed after wheezy upgrade

   * What led up to the situation?

Upgrading from squeeze to wheezy.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?

Downgrading back to squeeze's 2.6 kernel restored original load.

   * What was the outcome of this action?

Upgrading frmo squeeze to wheezy led to an incread of the load from 0.39
average (over the year) to 2.15 (over the week following the upgrade).

We had some misconfigured Apache+mod_php plugins (xdebug was enabled), but
turning that off only restored the load to 1.40 (over the day), which is still
about an order of magnitude higher than the load before the upgrade.

Downgrading to the 2.6 kernel restored the original load (0.15 over the last 15
minutes so far).

The machine was upgraded during "week 41" (october 10th). Yesterday we turned
off xdebug, which lowered the load a little, but not completely. Today we
downgraded back to linux 2.6, which restored the original load on the server.

also note how the CPU usage suddently bumped up after the upgrade:

The dip back down was when we disabled xdebug - but notice how the load was
higher even with the CPU usage lower. Also notice the small "softirq" (3%) bar
on top of the graph for the time the new kernel was deployed, which is gone now
that the old kernel is back.

I expected the load to stay the same or improve after the upgrade.
