It sounds like the version of makedumpfile you're using doesn't
understand the structured log format introduced in Linux 3.5. I guess
you need at least version 1.5.1-1, which has this changelog line:
* Add --dmesg-fix from upstream 1.5.2 for kernels 3.5
and above
