Bug#644174: Some new details - system hangs when i915 module is loaded with modeset=1, after a device was connected to USB 3.0 port during boot

Hi,

I've performed a few experiments (please see https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42844 , comments 24-27), and found, that the system hangs when I load the i915 module with modeset=1, after any
device was connected to the USB 3.0 port during boot.

When I boot the system with i915.modeset=0 it starts always.
Later on I can reload the i915 module with modeset=1 to obtain full graphics performance.
( rmmod i915; modprobe i915 modeset=1)

However it any USB device WAS connected to one of USB 3.0 ports during the boot, the system hangs.
If no such device was present, the module gets loaded and the following messages are displayed and written to the system log:

[ 384.308957] i915 0000:00:02.0: fb0: inteldrmfb frame buffer device
[ 384.308958] i915 0000:00:02.0: registered panic notifier

[ 385.088108] [drm] Enabling RC6 states: RC6 on, RC6p off, RC6pp off

If the USB device was present, the last displayed messages are (of course time values may be different):

[ 384.308957] i915 0000:00:02.0: fb0: inteldrmfb frame buffer device
[ 384.308958] i915 0000:00:02.0: registered panic notifier
[ 384.309174] [Firmware Bug]: ACPI(PEGP) defines _DOD but not _DOS

I've compared results of acpidump, /proc/interrupts, /proc/iomem, /proc/ioports and hanven't
found any significant difference between state of the system after booting with USB device in USB3.0 port and without such device...
