When did the naming convention for linux-source- change?

Hello to all.

I've found a bug in the automated installation script for ALSA related to Wheezy and am trying to communicate with the ALSA team on the issue.

Can anyone tell me when did the naming convention for the "linux-source-N.N.N" packages change?
I can see that it happened with Wheezy since there it is "linux-source-N.N" and in Squeeze: "linux-source-N.N.N".
The second question I have is the new package kind of a meta-package?
I suppose the source code on disk will get updated with each next kernel upgrade, right?

I am asking because I'd like to provide a patch for the ALSA automated install shell script so that other people will not have to debug it like me on Wheezy. :)

Thank you for your time.
