What do you mean with "are not staying up"? The load itself is no real 
indicator. 

"Not staying up" should have been revised. Once I did a clean OS install, our servers processes ran fine without any slowdowns as usual. Just with a load of 3+ rather than a load of less than one, and with a much higher # of interrupts.

Only the numbers per time-frame are of interrest, not absolute values. 


Those #'s, though absolute, are relative to each other. Both machines were rebooted and then given traffic at the exact same time. Those values took about 10 minutes to build up, so I believe they can be used as a good measure of comparison.
