Bug#714694: linux-image-amd64: Could not start debian

Thanks for answering so quickly,

How is the root disk attached (SATA, PATA, USB)?

The disk is SATA2

Have you tried using the 'rootdelay=N' parameter (N is number of
seconds to wait for the root device to be ready) to the kernel
command line?

I've tried 'rootdelay=15' and indeed, this was enought for allowing the computer to boot. But this leads to some questions :

1) is this the correct behavior ? I'm booting debian on this PC since the 2.6.39 kernel (maybe older ?), and I've never encountered this problem…

2) should I fear before upgrading other computers ? How could I check if this regression can happen ?

Thanks for the help and the support.
