It's a scratch volume. We care only about performance.
Problem appeared with "defaults" mount options as well.

What do you mean by "unsupported"? It's just OpenAFS from Squeeze backports:
ii openafs-client 1.6.1-3~bpo60+1 ...
ii openafs-modules-dkms 1.6.1-3~bpo60+1 ...
Btw. we are running smaller cluster of 40 nodes with _same_ OpenAFS module
without any problems (. The only difference is in QEMU, guest kernel and
newer physical hardware:
* host: ii qemu-kvm 1.0+dfsg-8~bpo60+1 ...
* guest: ii linux-image-3.2.0-0.bpo.2-amd64 3.2.20-1~bpo60+1 ...
