I haven't found a way to reliably reproduce, but I have found a way to
ensure that the issue doesn't reproduce.
Disabling power saving on the wireless card with 'iw dev wlan0 set
power_save off' has let the machine run for about 2 weeks without
incident.
FYI, this idea of disabling power saving came from the ath9k-devel
mailing list
