I don't know if this is possible. It runs all the scripts under /etc/kernel/postinst.d, which should cover this. Well, sorry, the flash-kernel package is *supposed* to do this but it seems that it is still broken in squeeze. I'm reopening this and hopefully you'll hear when that gets fixed.
