The instructions are straightforward.

It mostly takes processing time and bandwidth.  I do not have especially
large amounts of these resources.

Firstly, Debian froze in June when the latest version was 3.4.  So that
is the latest version we could have used.

Secondly, it's useful to share the work of maintaining a stable kernel
series, and we knew Ubuntu was using 3.2 in their 12.04 LTS.

Anyway it is still possible to backport drivers etc.
