There is apparently some kind of deadlock in the high-resolution timer
subsystem (hrtimer).  There have been subsequent changes to hrtimer in
both mainline which were also applied to the 3.2.y series.  Although
they were motivated by the problems with leap second handling, it's
possible that they would also address this bug.

Have you tried later kernel versions and has this continued to happen?
