For example, some hardware problems, and proprietary modules. I realise that many people use the nvidia driver without problems, but in case it does cause a problem neither Debian nor upstream kernel maintainers should be expected to support it. So the obvious first thing to test is whether the problem goes away when it is not loaded. (Note: loading then removing it does not necessarily have the same effect. You have to make sure it doesn't get loaded at all, either by using modprobe's 'blacklist' directive or by removing the module from the disk.)
