[...] That depends on the phone - my phone running CyanogenMod 7.1 (Android 2.3) shares in infrastructure (AP) mode, not IBSS. Anyway, I agree this should be fixed but it's already on the to-do list at <http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/brcm80211> and there's nothing we can reasonably do about it in Debian.
