Bug#692500: [linux-image-amd64] system freezes with Ivy Brigde CPU

Package: linux-image-amd64
Version: 3.2+46
Severity: critical

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Several users reported system freezes with a Wheezy beta. See this thread: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=85533

I experienced this problem multiple times per day with the following setup:
- CPU is Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz
- Linux Kernel 3.2.0-2 from the Wheezy repository
- I am using the onboard GPU

By searching the internet I came to the conclusion that it is a problem with the Linux Kernel and the Ivy Bridge GPU as mentioned here (see "Stability fixes for hard hangs on Ivy Bridge platform"): http://intellinuxgraphics.org/2012.02.html

The upstream commit that fixes this problem is fb046853ad66e64c96a2598f3fdd4cf5fbabc0d1. So kernel >= 3.5 should no longer have this problem.

After running the upstream kernel 3.6.3 for several days I can confirm that switching to a newer kernel version fixed the problem in my case.
