Bug#684666: R: Bug#684666: R: Bug#684666: AMI BIOS detected: BIOS may corrupt low RAM,

Hi,

kernel is 3.2.0-3-amd64 #1 SMP Mon Jul 23 02:45:17 UTC 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux,

test with: SSD + 8gB.

nothing crashed for 28 hours. I also managed to copy 3 files (5-8 gB per file)
to another pc via ethernet and the md5sums were ok. I also did the opposite
(the other pc already had the known good files before these tests) copying the
files from that pc to the notebook, md5sum comparison was ok.

So, i thought "Test will pass and the uptime will reach 5 or more days" ..
no :(

at uptime == ~27 hours i decided to unmount the 1gB ramdisk , to mount a 4gB
ramdisk.

i then started using it and xfce4-terminal crashed, on the screen this log
appeared:

so i used Ctrl+Alt+F2 and then Alt+F7 and i was able to come back to the
graphic mode.

all xfce4-terminal windows were still there but unusable.
i than used Ctrl+Esc to use the opennbox menu to open another xfce4-terminal
instance. It tooks some extra seconds (like 5 secs) to open and using "ps
uafx|grep xfce4-term" i 've seen xfce4-terminal old process was still there but
with a string like "[defunct]".

i then tried to kill that process with "kill -9 " but it didnt worked.
trying to close the old xfce4-terminal windows made openbox prompt me a
confirmation window to close the xfce4-terminal windows. I've confirmed it and
then another error log appeared:

So i decided to shutdown the system and now i'll follow the next test:

SSD + 4gB , where the 4gB this time is taken from the 8gb set. [i'm now using
only 1 bank of the 2x4gB set].

if it works it means that the problem could be ram-independent , it means that
the system/notebook isnt able to support > 4gB RAM.

If it fails it means that this first 4gB bank of the 8gB set could be
defective.

I'll then try to test with the other 4gB memory bank. to see if i get
different results.

ciao,
Asdrubale
