I have this dim recollection of deferring fair eviction, but can't find
any record of that.

I think it starts with this:

commit be54bbcaee8559cc412b5e4abc8eb33388b083e0
Author: Daniel Vetter <daniel.vetter@ffwll.ch>
Date: Fri Jun 17 10:04:20 2011 -0500

drm: implement helper functions for scanning lru list

which changes a DRM structure that is driver-allocated.

I'll see if I can find a way to apply this without breaking any OOT DRM
drivers. But are there any? The most popular OOT GPU drivers, fglrx
and nvidia, don't use DRM. VMware or VirtualBox guest GPU drivers
might.

Ben.
