Dear maintainer,
A follow-up, hoping this is useful: closing the lid of the laptop did
not put the computer to sleep, and on opening GDM had
restarted. Requesting sleep from this GDM greeter window did not work;
and when requesting shutdown, this works just partly, at first.
The screen shows:
[ ok ] deferred execution scheduler: atd
speech-dispatcher disabled; edit /etc/default/speech-dispatcher
[ ok ] Stopping bluetooth: rfcomm /usr/sbin/bluetoothd
[ ok ] Stopping network connection manager: NetworkManager.
[ ok ] Stopping avahi mDNS/DNS-SD Daemon: avahi-daemon.
[ ok ] Stopping Gnome Display Manager: gdm3.
[ ok ] Shutting down Alsa... done.
