Bug#679274: nfs-kernel-server: upgrading to 1:1.2.6-2 fails to start the kernel server
Package: nfs-kernel-server
Version: 1:1.2.2-4
Severity: important
After upgrading from 1:1.2.2-4 to 1:1.2.6-2, /etc/init.d/nfs-kernel-server faisl to start the kernel server:
Not starting NFS kernel daemon: no exports. ... (warning).
First of all, this should be an error, because the kernel server is not
running at all, it's not just a warning.
Second, after looking at the init script, I found you can't overwrite
that. I am now forced to add some dummy entry into /etc/exports to start
the kernel server:
/dummy_entry_for_broken_initscript
If this is some kind of optimisation, then it should be controllable via
/etc/defaults, just like other daemon packages do it. An empty exports
table does not mean you don't need an nfs server - in our case, the
exports are managed dynamically for example.
