I also made and checked a diff between 2.6.37-2 and
2.6.38~rc6-1~experimental.1 sources and it looks like there was some
functionality added to the drivers/power section which doesn't seem to
work right. I think this new functionality tries to add new messages to
udev so that usermode clients distinguish between power cable connection
and disconnection.

Which file has the change you are referring to? "git shortlog
v2.6.37..v2.6.38-rc6" doesn't show me anything obvious fitting that
description.

This was just a wild hunch. I really don't know much about the Linux kernel. I greped after "power_supply" in the source tree and that's where the most of the results were. I now noticed that "drivers/acpi" also has some stuff about power_supply and battery (which makes me thinking if it's not just a buggy ACPI implementation on my machine... in any case, I would be glad to get it fixed one way or another).

I'll check the latest kernel,

Excellent, thanks.

I'll check the new kernel tomorrow as now it's really late in my timezone and I have to go sleep.
