Thanks for a clear report and sorry for the very slow response.
Before delving further into this:

 - do you still have access to this hardware?
 - what kernel do you use these days?  does it still have trouble
   hibernating?
 - any new observations collected since this report?  any workarounds
   or more reliable reproduction recipes?
