Quick update: the patches in question

  4474ca42e257 md/bitmap: ensure to load bitmap when creating via sysfs
  c744a65c1e2d md: don't set md arrays to readonly on shutdown

have been applied upstream and queued for inclusion in 3.2.14 and 3.3.1.
The former is only relevant in >= 2.6.35 kernels, while the latter
might also need to be applied to squeeze (it's not clear to me from a
quick glance).
