Sorry for the very slow reply.  Basic questions:

 - Do you still have access to this hardware?
 - What kernel version were you using before that upgrade?
   (/var/log/dpkg.log* might help jog memory.)
 - Were you able to boot into another kernel?  What kernel are you using
   these days?
 - Does booting in recovery mode work?
 - Can you get a log, for example with netconsole?
 - Any other hints or weird observations?
