First: Great news--now have officital rt-preemptive kernels.

A recurring problem with patched or debug kernels concerns gpl-only symbol
names preventing non-gpl modules from building or running. Current case
involves "migrate_enable" which blocks the nvidia module from building (using
dkms). There may be others since those using the rt kernels are usually
involved with multimedia and will be more likely to be using non-gpl software.

This renders the new kernels unusable in such cases, Manual work-arounds will
be illegal or quasi-legal at best.

I never had the impression before that the rt kernels are mainly for
audio, nor that multimedia implied using GPL-incompatible binary
kernel modules more often than other hardware support.

It looks like the driver has locking problems on -rt kernels
anyway[1]. If you'd like to pursue a way to get that driver working
on -rt kernels, I'd suggest filing a report directly with Nvidia, and
then a report against the src:nvidia-graphics-drivers package if you'd
like it tracked in Debian.

Closing since I don't see a potential change to the kernel here and I
think the details in such a report regarding the nvidia driver would
not overlap much with this one.

By the way, have you tried nouveau? On my card at least it works very
well, and it is supported upstream. I would be very interested in any
bugs you find in it.

Hope that helps,
Jonathan
