OK. So why does initramfs-tools complain about it not being there?

What would /should (for the drives present, LVM, etc.) be different were this
to have been an older pure-debian (3?) install, afterwards, modified in the
same manner?
(Most all knoppix's stuff is gone but trying to remove their sysvinit
and/or hotplug-knoppix looks too dangerous. When I migrate to 64-bit, this
will start with deboostrap so the sysvinit should come from there, be
dependency based, etc. I would gladly remove the rest of their stuff right now
if I new how do it it safely.)
