Package: linux-2.6
Version: 3.1.5-1
Severity: normal

Hi!

This happens to me on three different machines, it happens with different
kernels and doesn't happen all the times but only sometimes.

The typical behaviour is that you get the two first lines of kernel's output
when going to hibernate, which are:

Looking for splash system... none
s2disk: Snapshotting system

then typically I see something like a mode change (screen gets black and
then comes back with those two lines and s2disk continues to output
messages) but when it fails the screen gets black and doesn't come back. At
this state you can type (computer is not frozen) and see what you type but
pressing Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Z doesn't do anything, not even Ctrl+Alt+Del. It
even happens that sometimes if you wait for a while it will get out of the
black screen and get back to where you were before trying to hibernate.

Two of the computers are running testing, and one is running unstable, all
three computers are running linux-image-3.1.0-1-amd64 and I started to
experiment this on 3.1.4-1, I have tested this also on 3.2.0 rc4, rc6 and
rc7 the problem is still there, in fact I have one of the machines (a lenovo
desktop which runs testing) downgraded to 3.1.1-1 and it hibernates ok and
if I get it to 3.2.0rc7 then it fails all the time, the other machines are
more difficult to get to fail but also tend to fail more on the 3.2.0 RCs.

I have uswsusp installed on all of them so I was suspecting a bad behaviour
of it when used with recent kernels, so I uninstalled it on the lenovo and
tested again with 3.2.0 rc7 and it failed as well.

Is there any info I can add to help debugging this?

What follows is the info of one of the machines I'm seeing this on, a
Compaq Presario C760EM which runs testing.
