Thanks for a clear summary (and likewise, thanks to others for the
quick feedback).

There have been a few iwlwifi fixes upstream recently.  Could you
try[1] v3.2-rc5 or later?

If it doesn't work, there are even newer patches to try in linville's
tree, but let's ignore that and pester upstream in that case.
