Package: firmware-linux-nonfree
Version: 0.28+squeeze1
Severity: normal

Hi,

after installing firmware-linux-nonfree I still had errors in dmesg with kernel
3.0.8:

[ 898.849606] radeon 0000:01:00.0: radeon: using MSI.
[ 898.849706] [drm] radeon: irq initialized.
[ 898.849719] [drm] GART: num cpu pages 131072, num gpu pages 131072
[ 898.851091] [drm] Loading CAICOS Microcode
[ 898.884786] ni_cp: Failed to load firmware "radeon/CAICOS_pfp.bin"
[ 898.884791] [drm:evergreen_startup] *ERROR* Failed to load firmware!

so I asked google about it, found a slackware package with firmware...

  953 sudo cp -a lib/firmware/radeon/CAICOS_pfp.bin /lib/firmware/radeon/
  957 sudo cp -a lib/firmware/radeon/CAICOS_me.bin /lib/firmware/radeon/
  961 sudo cp -a lib/firmware/radeon/BTC_rlc.bin /lib/firmware/radeon/
  965 sudo cp -a lib/firmware/radeon/CAICOS_mc.bin /lib/firmware/radeon/

Could You please include these firmware files in firmware-linux-nonfree?

Now for some more tries about "vga_switcheroo" and turning the non-used not-
supported DIScrete graphics card off...

Kind regards,
Dominik

The kernel version in 'squeeze' doesn't support acceleration for these
chips so the firmware is not packaged for squeeze either. You'll need
to get a newer firmware-linux-nonfree package (0.29 or later) from
testing, unstable or squeeze-backports.

Ben.
