Bug#632248: linux-image-2.6.39-2-amd64: Copying from my external Western Digital hard drive gives "Error splicing file: Input/output error" error

I unfortunately think you were right since now both my Linux computers are telling me that my hard drive might die at any moment but having reformatted from scratch still has it saying that and gnome-disk-utility "crashes" (not actual program crashes) on self-tests however, during all this chaos, it seems to work perfectly fine and copying Windows stuff like games (=not data I use/make in Linux) seemed to not causes issues even before the reformatting. Now, nothing causes problems! (Except the constant nagging). Is it normal for the drive to work perfectly on its way to death or is there still hope for me (and work for you lol)? This drive is probably about a year old so I'm really unlucky especially since it was a gift and I don't have the receipt.
