I've confirmed that linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64 has this same problem.
I believe this problem did not exist in 2.6.31 from backports.

With the Keyspan USA-49WG (a 4-port USB-to-Serial device), only 3 ports 
work.  Reads/writes from/to the port 4 just hang.  I tried swapping the 
serial cables between ports 3 and 4, and port #3 always worked fine, #4 
never worked.

Also, sometimes, when I interrupt a port #4 read/write, I get this:

I suppose this was fixed with

That change is too intrusive for the 2.6.32 stable kernel, through.
