Ok, sounds like three problems.  They may or may not be related.

Basic questions:

 1. Please attach output from "reportbug -p linux-image-$(uname -r)",
    so we can get to know your hardware better.

 2. Please attach a log of the kernel initialization sequence, for
    example by grabbing the full output from "dmesg" right after
    boot-up.

 3. Did this machine use lenny before?  If so, did it work better?

 4. Any news since you wrote this report?  Has anything changed with
    upgrades?  Learned any workarounds?  Noticed any other weird
    symptoms?
