Good news -- it works!!

I downloaded the KDE version, and on booting the DVD got to the KDE 
desktop with no problems at all.  (I would need to update the list of 
screen resolutions to get the aspect ratio right, but no big deal, and 
the sound sounds a bit tinny, but we have a running system.)
