Bug#625727: linux-image-2.6.38-2-amd64: Console turns black during boot, backlight turns off

Very nice.  One option would be to bisect[1] between those to find the
individual patch that caused the problem.

But first, let's get this upstream.  That means:

 1. Test a 3.x kernel, from sid or experimental
 2. Follow instructions at
    http://intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html
 3. Let us know the bug number so we can track it
