Just thought I might report this for reference, so that others googling for
it will find a Debian bug report as well...

The story: I noticed this in my logs after upgrading to 2.6.32-35:

[326452.367013] iwlagn 0000:03:00.0: Firmware has old API version. Expected v5, got v2. New firmware can be obtained from http://www.intellinuxwireless.org.

and stupid as I am, I thought that "Hey, let me just grab firmware-iwlwifi
from sid". The result was the message in the subject, and a need to get
an ethernet cable so I could downgrade the firmware to get my wireless
network running again. Well, after reading the fix I assume it would
have been sufficient to just delete the /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-5000-[3-5].ucode
files, but...

Anyway, this bug is already fixed in upstream 2.6.32-longterm,
so just close when this enters Debian:

commit c49ed7e7d1461ed0ce88548de0d67c88784a99f3

commit 2a96ae707525ef00a85bf374e56f0219c07eac5a
Author: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
Date: Wed Jun 15 13:12:35 2011 -0700

Revert "iwlagn: Support new 5000 microcode."

    This reverts commit 6f63415fc1b690cb50c2ad48ba6e9e6e88e271b4.

It turns out this is not what we want to have happen for the .32 and
.33-longterm kernels as it does not work properly at all.

This was reported by Gentoo, Arch, and Canonical developers as causing
    problems for their users:
