Sorry for the long lull.  Basic questions:

 - the subject line says this is a problem with the ata disk
   interface.  How did you determine that (messages about SCSI EH?).
   Can you attach a relevant log?

 - is this reproducible with a recent kernel from squeeze?  Does
   a sid kernel behave better?

 - any other news or weird symptoms?

If this is reproducible with the sid kernel, we can take this
upstream.  If it is fixed in sid, we can try to find the fix and
backport it.
