I'm fairly confident that this started happening after I started running
linux-image-3.0.0-1. I tend to reboot very infrequently (at least I
used to), and this problem definitely didn't start happening until after
my last reboot to start running 3.0.0. I had been running 2.6.38
previously, though, since I ran in to all sorts of problems with 2.6.39.
My logs don't go back far enough for me to say for sure which udev
versions had been upgraded in the mean time.

jamie.
