Bug#638896: linux-image-2.6.39-bpo.2-amd64 root filesystem not found on boot

Well, it’s Debian Stable, with the following changes:

Newer kernel from backports (2.6.38 and now 2.6.39)
Newer transmission-daemon from experimental (2.32)

sources.list

# deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 6.0.0 _Squeeze_ - Official Snapshot amd64 LIVE/INSTALL Binary 20110324-07:27]/ squeeze main

#deb cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux 6.0.0 _Squeeze_ - Official Snapshot amd64 LIVE/INSTALL Binary 20110324-07:27]/ squeeze main

deb http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main

# squeeze-updates, previously known as 'volatile'

#backports

# also add urls for other releases which is possible now since we set the default release to squeeze
# now we can upgrade some of the packages (i.e. transmission) to testing.

apt.conf:

APT::Default-Release "squeeze";

there are no sources.lst.d files.
there are some apt.conf.d files, never touched them.

I think it’s very strange that the term.log for the second run looks completely different from the first run, but maybe that’s because most of the needed packages are already upgraded. The first run (the one that failed), started with package dacrut which is were it wrong immediately.
