Bug#638896: clarification

valentijn, hi,

i just wanted to clarify / double-check something. you say:

"Then I just tried to reinstall Debian Squeeze on top of the existing
problematic installation."

but then you describe a process which merely involves *booting*
debian-squeeze on top of the existing problematic installation, *not*
actually "installing" or "reinstalling" anything.

so, to clarify: have you, since using the live USB boot to boot up the
system, performed any system maintenance of any kind or any package
maintenance (run apt-get, aptitude, dpkg or other) which could have
altered or written to the main Hard Drive since the problematic
installation?

for example: have you, since booting from the live USB Squeeze boot,
copied the linux 2.6.32 kernel or its initrd over to the main Hard
Drive?

it's very important to determine that the system is still in its
original "problematic" state, because that's what's needed in order to
properly diagnose what's going on.

l.
