Nothing shows in /var/log/kern.log* or /var/log/syslog*
I tried the commands listed, set the copy going, then switched to
VTERM1, with tail -f /var/log/kern.log running, but nothing showed.
When disk activity stopped, I returned to the GUI, where the copy had
succeeded. I removed the directory, and ran it a second time, when it
immediately hung.
After a reboot, still nothing in either log.
