Tried s2ram from console with parameters suggested in:
http://old-en.opensuse.org/S2ram
Result: for all configurations, DVI output is black, but monitor is still
active, just black screen. Same result with boot option radeon.agpmode=-1
Did some googling and found this thread:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16140
But in the case described there the output is garbled.
