Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.9.1-2
Severity: Important
Justification: Frequent crashes on specific hardware

Heyho!

Opening a new bug since errors are slightly different from what I've seen
reported with earlier kernel/X.

Symptom:
X suddenly goes black during some (unspecified) actions (opening menus,
resizing windows, ...); this time instead of a mouse counter there is a text
cursor (non-blinking underline) top left of the screen.

Changing to text console is not possible. ssh is fine, restarting X is not possible.

Messages:
dmesg ends with:
[ 5559.100006] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung
[ 5559.100019] render error detected, EIR: 0x00000000
[ 5559.100249] [drm:i915_do_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_do_wait_request returns -5 (awaiting 425747 at 425735)

Xorg.0.log ends with:
+++
Fatal server error:
Failed to submit batchbuffer: Input/output error

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support
         at http://wiki.x.org
 for help.
Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information.

(II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch
+++

kernel is 2.6.33-1~experimental.2
X is 2:1.7.5-1 (xserver-xorg-core); rest of the system is a fairly up to
date squeeze.

Now trying with mem=400M (on a 512M box) - this didn't get us anywhere.

Compositing was disabled. Enabling compositing gets us this crash
immediately instead only sporadically.

cheers
