Bug#623088: Options tried.

I have tried advice found on the web about similar problems with Acer 5735Z. This was to add "i915.powersave=0 pci=noacpi" to the boot line (GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in /etc/default/grub). This certainly got rid of screen flicker, and reduced the frequency of the system log being flooded / reboot failure, but did not eliminate the problem which still occurs seemingly at random. The longer the computer runs the higher the risk, and it seems to me that having ac power and battery on at the same time increases the risk / frequency.
